Statement regarding Attack on Muslims in London, ON

The Durham Catholic District School Board is deeply committed to the principles of equity and combating racism and discrimination in all its forms. We are called to recognize each, and every individual as created in the image of God, and the rights of all people to be treated with dignity and respect. 

As a Catholic community, we pray for the victims and injured involved in the attack on Muslims in London, ON and for all people who are impacted by discrimination on a daily basis. We draw strength, comfort from each other, and support one another in dealing with the aftermath of this event. 

At this time, we extend our assistance to all those who are experiencing heightened emotions. Students who may be struggling due to the unjust event shared in the media, are asked to reach out to a caring adult to arrange for additional support through our social workers and school chaplains, or principals. 

We remain committed to creating a safe and inclusive learning environment for all our students and staff.
